Wetlands Management, LP, is the sponsor and operator of mitigation banks, which sell wetland mitigation credits approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to fulfill the mitigation requirements of Section 404 permit holders. We allow developers, pipeline companies, utility providers, and state and local governments to pay a one-time fee to purchase credits transferring their projects’ mitigation obligations.
The mitigation bank—such as Bunker Sands Mitigation Bank—then assumes all future credit obligations and liabilities for the development project. We coordinate the permitting, execute the mitigation work plan, provide long-term management of the site, continually monitor the site for ecological sustainability and legal compliance, and provide USACE-approved financial assurances.
Mitigation banking offers many benefits: eliminating the need to acquire land and/or water to fulfill mitigation needs; consolidating the mitigation for multiple small wetland impacts into one large site, which provides greater ecological value; providing increased surface water quality in streams and wetlands; and restoring wetlands in advance of development actions.
Our work not only satisfies the public or private entity’s mitigation obligation, but also protects the watersheds in our service areas, restoring the landscape to its pre-settlement purity and bringing back part of the aquatic ecosystems that urbanization has taken away.
